Highlight Editing

I like the shape of the image below of Megan but felt compared to the image of David is was not at that standard. Below are examples of practising bringing out the highlights and editing. My aim was to emphasis the shape of the body and to show that before dancers perform or practise they stretch so not to pull as muscle and wanted to capture the beauty of before the performance.

The image above is of Megan in crab and I wanted to show the beauty of the body when she does this position. This position is so she can stretch out her back. I captured nude so I could get the shape of her body without any blending in with each other. I tried to bring out the highlights in her body but although she has good muscles in her legs compared to Davids image below there is not enough muscle to bring out the detail. Therefore, I feel I am not going to use this image towards my final exhibition. No only that I feel the shape could be more effective if her arms where straighter and or maybe if her elbows where are the floor so her back was more arched. Apart from that I will continue to edit the image to see whether I could improve it but smoothing out her bum and making the background more dark.

The above image is similar to the first one but this time I turned one of the lights off so that the the light on side would go off and light one side of the body. I also moved over to one side to get a different camera angle. After shooting this on image I decided I want to capture using two lights from either side as I wanted the details and the shape in the body. I edited the image above in the same way to bring out the highlights but it does not have the same effect and the images belows of David and Megan's back. Therefore, I will not be using the above image for my final end of year exhibition.

The above image is of David and I have unsharpened the image so it brings out the highlights and the muscles in his back. Then played with the curves in photoshop to lighten the image more. I then made the background darker using the burn tool in photoshop so it would darken the shadows making the background look more dark (as seen below). Therefore, making David stand out more.

I have done the same to the image above. When editing Davids image I recorded my actions so that when it came to editing the image above they would match and not look too different. Although Megan's images was lit differently then Davids. I played around with the curve adjustment so it was not too bright. I did the same, using the burn tool I made the background darker so the focus was mainly on the dancer Megan than seeing the detail in the background (as seen below)

Overall, I am happy with the image of David and of Megan's back and will be using the in the final end of year exhibition and will be exhibiting them at The Gallery in Redchurch in London as well. The images show the shape of the body and the detail within it such as David's muscles and Megan's skin on her back and shoulders.

I am in the studio again this week and will work on more shapes and stretches to capture.
